Green Waste

Curbside green waste pickup is available to residents.  The City offers curbside green waste collection beginning March 1 through November 30 each year.  The cost is $5.00 per month.  Pickup is weekly on the same day as the regular garbage collection day.  Billing for green waste collection is after the fact.  Residents who subscribe will be billed the months of April through December.

For concerns, questions, or to sign up call us at  (801) 229-7275 to have a can replaced call (801) 852-0060

To provide better waste management service for our residents, the City of Orem and the North Pointe Transfer Station have joined together to provide one location for green waste and solid waste dumping.

Orem residents should take their green waste to the North Pointe Transfer Station (County Landfill) in Lindon at the west end of Orem’s 2000 North. The entrance fee will be waived on green waste loads as long as they produce evidence of living in Orem (address on driver's license or utility bill) and have their green load covered.

The City of Orem will provide residents with a regular landfill pass for regular garbage loads in the spring and fall. This pass will be included in utility bills. This is a pass for a single load, no exceptions will be made.

You can reach the County Landfill at (801) 225-8170

IMPORTANCE OF RECYCLING
The first thing they teach students in an Economics class is that resources are scarce. Recycling is an excellent way to conserve and re-use those scarce resources. Recycling is important to the environment and saves the City money in landfill fees. It conserves natural resources and preserves a legacy of resources for future generations. In many areas, recycling is mandatory; Orem City has chosen to keep it voluntary. However, as Mayor Washburn has challenged, “we need to lead out in Orem, set the precedent, and make recycling and conserving resources a part of life.” Orem City has an automated recycling program that residents can participate in.

PARTICIPATION IS SIMPLE
“We need to lead out in Orem, set the precedent, and make recycling and conserving resources a part of life.”
    – Mayor Washburn

Orem residents pay a small fee of $3.00 per month for curbside recycling service. The recycling bin looks like the regular trash bin, except that it is blue. Participation is extremely simple; residents can put all their recyclables (all paper products, #1 and #2 plastics and all metals-tin, aluminum etc.) inside the bin without separating them and wheel the bin out to the curb every other week.  A schedule of pick up days will be delivered with the bin.  To set up service, call our Utility Billing department at (801) 229-7275.

COST SAVINGS
If a resident is now using 2 trash bins, they are paying $10.35/month for the first trash bin and $9.50/month for the second bin. A recycling bin costs only $3.00/month. Those who use a recyling bin often find the recycling bin is full while their trash bin is only half full. You can save $6.50/month while, the City will benefit from reduced landfill costs. The automated curbside recycling program is an every-other-week service. Waste Management will provide participants with a calendar highlighting their service days.

SIGNING UP
