Public Safety

Mission Statement
In partnership with the community, provide professional, quality, and caring public safety services to produce a safe environment, lower crime, and high quality of life for the citizens of Orem.
Message From The Director
It is my great honor to serve as Director of Public Safety and live, serve, and associate with men and women who are dedicated, conscientious, and professional. With them, I am pleased to present to you our 2007 annual report.
Orem continues to be a safe community in which to live, work, and rear a family. This year’s 32.9 Part One Crimes per 1000 residents is lower than when I began my career with Orem in 1978. There were fewer reported theft cases during 2007 than there were 15 years ago with a much smaller population.Orem is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in the United States, as reported annually by Morgan Quitno.
Notwithstanding these positive indicators, there remain areas which we must address as a department and community. I am concerned about the increased presence of gangs, with the attendant problems of violent crime, and graffiti.Domestic violence and its related problems continue to take a toll on far too many families. Drug use, especially heroin and methamphetamine, continue to impact the lives of some of our young people. Identity theft is a growing problem that affects many of our residents.
As a department we have taken internal steps to reduce and prevent these problems within Orem. Even though we have implemented changes within the organization we realize that we cannot solve these problems by ourselves. As the mission statement says, we must work with you, the citizens, as a partner. We encourage you to protect your belongings by closing garage doors, locking cars, and looking out for your neighbors. Please call us when you see suspicious activity or irregular behavior. No problem is too small; we will respond. After all, we work for you.
